usul Reog Ponorogo ini. Salah satu yang paling terkenal adalah cerita
pemberontakan Ki Ageng Kutu, yang
merupakan seorang abdi kerajaan pada masa Bhre Kertabhumi,
Raja Majapahit terakhir yang berkuasa pada abad
ke-15. Dalam pemberontakan tersebut, Ki Ageng Kutu membuat kesenian reog
sebagai pesan politiknya yang merupakan sindiran kepada raja. Selain itu dia
membangun perlawanan masyarakat local menggunakan reog ini. Dalam pertunjukan
reog tersebut menampilkan topeng berbentuk singa dengan bulu merak di atasnya
yang menyimbolkan raja kertabhumi sebagai singa dan bulu merak diatasnya
sebagai pengaruh cina yang mengatur pemerintahan raja. Selain itu ada
kelompok penari gemblak yang menunggangi
